Ching Chiao

This is an Open Letter from Ching Chiao, the Chair of APNG, to address about how he thinks APNG & APNG Camp should be developed in the new decade. You can download full letter here.

“…As we are celebrating a fruitful 2010 and welcoming the next decade of APNG, I wish that you could help spend a brief moment and think about how to make APNG / APNG Camp a better community organization. As the Chairperson, I feel obliged to elaborate what I have in mind so let me try to take the lead on this…”

“…we have brought over more than 1,000 participants from all over Asia to join 12 Camps in the last 9 years…Most participants are in early 20’s when they first join the Camp. They meet international friends, explore regional and local issues thru their peers, and collaborate on research topics or develop community projects utilizing Internet / web technology…Participants as well as the alumni network of APNG Camp form the future foundation of Internet development in Asia. I myself am one of the proud Camp alumni, a genuine APNG “product”…

“…new round of fundraising activities will begin shortly…we will seek for and accept annual sponsorship / donation for our works and activities. In brief, there are three aspects…Main APNG Camp will be held in a 12~18 month interval…Local APNG Camp will be held in a more frequent basis…we have active local camps in Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Myanmar, Philippines and Sri Lanka…target to restart or launch 5 to 7 more in 2011…local camp participants will commit to collaborate on community projects…Internet Museum of Asia (IMasia): a wiki-like website with integration of social networking and mobile features so participants would be able to publish text, audio, video files to record historical and ongoing events about Internet development and movement in Asia…AP Online School (APOS): an online e-learning platform for Internet knowledge education and promotion…to establish a shared-license digital archive of workshops and seminars for educational purpose…”
